Coaching Philosophy

My philosophy in working with you is grounded in complexity theory and systems thinking. What does that mean? I’ll get more into both of these ways of thinking in a minute, but for starters, know that I am catering all of my professional career coaching experience to YOU. There are a lot of ways to process, and I want to help you find what works for you.

I strive to see each of my clients as the unique individual they are, and ensure that we have clear and effective communication. I’ll be sure to weave in best practices and context from the outside, but my approach will always be built to focus on you. A guiding principle I aim to follow is that doing follows being. To me, this means that mindset is just as important as tactics. If your actions aren’t tethered to a firm sense of being, they often become transient and inconsistent.

Complexity theory tells us that the world is neither highly ordered nor is it totally chaotic, but rather that it’s something in between: complex. It means that things unfold in patterns, changing slightly before changing dramatically. It means that things can behave linearly (where progress happens piece-by-piece) or non-linearly (where a small effort can have a huge result).

I approach every problem and every client with these complex lenses in mind, looking for patterns to emerge so we can proceed in the best possible way. Thinking systemically can help us begin to see the complex patterns around us and how they influence the outcomes we seek. In a practical way, what this translates to is building effective practices that we can trust will move you closer to your goals.

Complexity and systems thinking are more of a lens through which I see the world in general, but they apply so powerfully to career searches specifically. They’re not a toolkit so much as they are a mindset. And it’s my job to translate this philosophy into a system that works for you. I’m always happy to explore my philosophy with my clients and nerd out on these topics, so feel free to ask!
